My Idea For Dystopia

The human race has now discovered a fast and cheap way to extract gas from the ground. It is Called ‘fracking’ where high pressure water mixed with sand and chemicals are pumped into the ground but this 50% of this water stays in the ground leaking into water supplies causing serious biological problems.

The Fringes (The Chrysalids creative writing)

I was sitting down on a rock watching my friend, Angus, catching flies with his lizard like tongue, “how do they taste?” I asked curiously “salty, wanna try one?” Angus replied “nah” I said “its getting late we should head back” so we headed north out of the forest back home. We arrived outside of his shack like house actually it’s more a mud hut with a corrugated roof. There’s not many supplies here and the Labradorians won’t share any of their supplies so that’s the reason we have to make mud huts. I arrived at my families’ mud hut and I was greeted by my mum, Anne, “you’re late for dinner” my mum said so I sat at the table where my sister, Lucy, was tucking into some purple soup. Purple soup pretty much consists of purple tomatoes boiled, there are three tomato types, purple which are the most common and the cheapest to trade with, then you get the blue which is slightly rarer and more expensive because it’s slightly sweeter and finally there’s the red tomato which is the most expensive because of it’s rarity and sweetness. We were all at the table except dad, slurping our soup, my mum asking how our day was and to be honest it was pretty boring. I went to my bedroom and I went to bed.

I woke to the smell of purple soup which made my stomach churn after having had it for three weeks. I sat at the table slurping my purple soup listening to my sister rant on to my how much she wants to go to her “boyfriends” house which was music to my ears the thought of her being gone. I went out and waited for Angus to arrive so we could go hunting training together, theres three different training courses hunting, farming and crafting their all important but I always felt at home with a bow and arrow but I think Angus does it because I do. We were greeted by our trainer, Judas, “get your kit ready, I want to be out of here in five” Judas ordered, so we went out into the forest and split off into pairs to hunt for deers. “Hey Angus I see one” I whispered “cool, how many heads?” Angus asked “three, I think” I answered unsurely “i’m gonna go for it” so I loaded my arrow and pulled back my bow, just as I was about to pull the trigger a loud crack exploded my ears making all the birds inhabiting the forest take flight. Me and Angus turned round to see a dead deer lying upon the ground and then we saw five men holding metal contraptions so not knowing who they were we ducked and hid behind a fallen tree. “Do you think they saw us?” Angus asked “no, I don’t think so” I answered and as soon as I said that two muscular arms dragged both of us out from behind the tree “you’re coming with us” the man said.

10 Year Old Girl Hacks the Pentagon

Today the C.I.A. Announced that the network problems with the Pentagon’s database was caused by a “Hacker” that is aged ten. The C.I.A. managed to find a Trojan type virus which disguises itself something else, searching through confidential documents and then within five minutes they traced it back to the Shetland Islands, Scotland and to find that they had been Hacked by a Ten Year Old  according to Pentagon Security Executive, Bob Jefferson.

The girl will be taken to court according to The Head of Security, Bob Jaffacake but Ginger News talked too the ten year old, Lucy Roberts stated ” My friends came over and dared me to use this website Hacksforfree.com and we got in to the Pentagon Database ” and Ginger News looked at her Internet history and there was no doubting that she had been on Hacksforfree.com so should it be the girl being prosecuted or should they be looking for the people who created this website. The head of security reassured american’s by saying ” We have closed down the website responsible for security risk and we’re doing security checks on the anti virus software so we can assure the security for this nation “. Many people have been outraged of the decision to prosecute Lucy Roberts instead of the people behind the website but the head of security replied ” Even though she didn’t directly hack the Pentagon, she ordered in too and that is as bad “.

Primary Source Practice

Question : Why was the Pentagon built ?

I wanted to know why the U.S built one of the largest military office in the world so I went searching and I came across this website http://pentagontours.osd.mil/index.html and found out that in the summer of 1941 in Washington D.C that the work force was at 24,000   people (civilian and military) housed in 17 building so the government wanted to make some temporary buildings but one Brigadier General, Brehon B. Somervell dicided that they needed 583 acres of military center because of the world war that had broke out.

I hope I used a primary source.

Analytic Essay Romeo + Juliet.

Romeo + Juliet

In this essay I will answering the question How does Baz Luhrmann keep the spirit of Elizabethan theater alive in his Film Interpretation, Romeo + Juliet and i’m going to go about this in four stages (not including the conclusion). The main points of Elizabethan play that I will be talking about is how Luhrmann brings from the play into the film is the Original Script, the Set, the Faith and the use of subtitles. You might be like “what is this guy on about” but all will be explained in this essay.

The most obvious pass over from the original play to the film is the Original Script, this were the actors say there lines in old English even though it’s set in modern times. One of the reasons I think Luhrmann does this because it adds a tempo to the film what is called the Iambic pentameter and really helps the viewer to understand the language better even though it is in old English. The second thing I like about putting the original script is how the mix of the old English but the modern day setting works together that makes the film really unique than any other films I’ve seen. Now I’m going to write about the Exaggeration they use in the film which they also use in the play. This just adds to the effect that the language has on the film by making the film fell more psychotic, mad  and it make it easier for the viewers to understand the old English.

This paragraph I will be look at the set and how it represents buildings and structures from the Elizabethan era. There are many references to structures in the adaption, there’s one that’s quite hard to spot at first but if you look again you will see when Romeo and Benvolio go into the bar to play pool, it’s called the Globe theater which I thought was a nice touch. The second building that Luhrmann put into the set where romeo is depressed writing a poem or a diary on how much he loves Rosaline but she doesn’t love him and he is doing this on a open air stage on the beach which is similar to the Globe theater. In the beginning of the movie there are some establishing shots of the city which show poor and dilapidated areas and than showing the Capulet mansion being rich and vibrant and this all states to social class and the whole of Elizabethan culture and society was based on social class.

Baz Luhrmann keeps the side of faith in Romeo + Juliet in many interesting ways. In the film Romeo does lots of little things that are not respecting the way of god like the way he pretty much says that he hates god in anger of his fate even though that Romeo asked god to choose his fate. When he leaves the church he trips up and knocks the cross over which is a sign of disrespect and carelessness of the religion. Between the two families the only thing that links together is their faith even in the title “Romeo + Juliet” there’s a cross in between the to teenagers from the two families and when he enters the party which he meets Juliet there is a cross above the entrance so what i’m trying to say is whenever there is a symbol of Christianity connected to the two star crossed lovers it means their a step closer to reaching their fate which results in them dying to stop the fighting between the two families but the thing that amazed me most was how Baz Luhrmann does it in a way which you know Christianity is a massive factor in the film but not even noticing the little hints along the way and that is a real hard skill to have but he did it so well.

To replace soliloquy with subtitles was a interesting move by the director was probably the only way he could of transferred soliloquy into a movie without it looking unnatural ( which the film didn’t look really anyway) and weird. You couldn’t really have the actor looking into the camera as if he was talking to the audience so when the wanted to display his thoughts they used subtitles which was unusual because they could of used a voice of the character over the top talking about what they are thinking. The subtitles add a different effect though because your not just listening to his thoughts your them so you can interpret them how you want not just listen on how the directer wants you to think of them and that is different to most films so I think he was success in putting subtitles in the film.

I’ve come to the conclusion that Baz Luhrmann  interpreted the play Romeo & Juliet in his own but very smart way by using little hints along the way about their fate as William Shakespeare did in his play. The director was very successful in capturing the idea of fate  because he new what Shakespeare goal he was trying to achieve so Luhrmann tried to achieve the same goal and he reached it so my conclusion is that he kept the spirit of Elizabethan era so well that if William Shakespeare was alive today and he watched the film Shakespeare would think he interpreted it to the highest standard possible.

Romeo and Juliet Essay Plan

The Question I will be doing is: How does Baz Luhrmann keep the spirit of Elizabethan theater alive in his Film Interpretation, Romeo + Juliet

The Introduction.

In the Introduction I will be stating the question that I will be hopefully answering and a summary of how i’m going to go about this.

Paragraph 1.

The first paragraph i’m going to state the most obvious part of Elizabethan play they brought into the Film, the original script. I will be also talking about how the actors exaggerate the language when they are speaking.

Paragraph 2.

This Paragraph I will be looking at the set and how it represents the Elizabethan times and how it effects the film and how it adds atmosphere. I should come to a conclusion for this paragraph if it improves the film or just affects nothing.

paragraph 3.

This is going to be the paragraph were I write about how the film keeps the faith side of the original play and shows Christianity not in a good light but not in a bad light because if William Shakespeare put anything in his plays that was blasphemous he would probably been put in prison for being a mental case so Baz decided to keep to what Shakespeare was doing.

Paragraph 4.

The subject of this paragraph is the use of  subtitles to replace soliloquy because in the play they use this. talking to the camera (the audience) is not so effective so Baz Luhrmann decided to put it as subtitles so i’m going to investigate if this was a good or bad idea.

Conclusion.

This is pretty much were I answer the question and summaries my writing.

Metaphor Analysis

Romeo:From this world-wearied flesh. Eyes, look your last!
Arms, take your last embrace! and, lips, O you
The doors of breath, seal with a righteous kiss
A dateless bargain to engrossing death!
Come, bitter conduct, come, unsavory guide!
Thou desperate pilot, now at once run on
The dashing rocks thy sea-sick weary bark!
Here’s to my love!

Romeo says that god has lost his way and that this the end for him and his love. He also seems to be saying that like disgusting tastes.
The way I see he uses words to do with taste to show gods lost his way is by this quotation.
“Come, bitter conduct, come, unsavory guide!”
For Romeo to be describing god as lost and saying this is to my love he’s saying that god has chosen a very sad
fate for Juliet.
